After a year of not self harming after five years of continuous grief, I treated myself to this tattoo set. I used to be the bird on the left, stuck wondering what to do and where to go but doing nothing about it. I am now free and very much so the bird on the right. Also inspired by Regina Spektor’s “Two Birds”.

“I am bigger than everything that came before” -Ani Difranco
This is the end of my first session, I will be getting the shading done in January. This tattoo means the world to me. I recently went through a year long court case. On August 4th, 2010, I heard a judge sentence my step-father 31 years to life for sexually abusing my little sister and myself for many years when we were children. This tattoo is a reminder to myself: i am a strong person, the love and strength my family experienced over the last year, and that (as the quote states) I am bigger than everything that came before, and I learn and grow as a person with each day that passes.
